Acast Acquires Wake Word Studios to Anchor German Expansion
The deal provides Acast with an immediate foothold in the rapidly maturing German market, adding 50 titles and 2 million monthly listens to its network.
MUNICH — Global podcast giant Acast has acquired Wake Word Studios, a leading German creative audio and video production house, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction, announced December 19, will see Wake Word rebranded as "Acast Creative Studios" in Germany.
The deal provides Acast with an immediate foothold in the rapidly maturing German market, which is forecast to generate €79 million in advertising revenue in 2025. By integrating Wake Word's 50-title portfolio—which includes popular shows like Mensch! and Wild und Fremd—Acast adds approximately 2 million monthly listens to its network.
Strategically, the acquisition underscores Acast's pivot toward omnichannel monetization. Wake Word brings expertise in video and social campaigns, aligning with Acast's broader push to offer advertisers comprehensive packages that extend beyond pure audio spots. The deal also includes Podius, a proprietary media planning platform, which will continue to operate as an independent tool for the German market.
